Autopsychography ~ Fernando Pessoa

This Pessoa’s poem is marked by the forgery of the feelings – the art of misrepresentation. The word Autopsychography derives from Portuguese word Psicografia – Psychography – which derives from the Greek, meaning “writing from the mind or soul of a medium, words suggested by a spirit or entity”.

Autopsychography

The poet is a pretender
His pretense seems so real
That he pretends to suffer
The pain he really feels.

And those who read his writes,
In the pain chore feel well,
Not both pains he delights,
But the one which nobody tells.

Hence the gutters of merry-go-round
Spin out to put my mind apart,
This convoy of rope that bounds
This convoy of hope called heart.

Autopsicografia

O poeta é um fingidor.
Finge tão completamente
Que chega a fingir que é dor
A dor que deveras sente.

E os que lêem o que escreve,
Na dor lida sentem bem,
Não as duas que ele teve,
Mas só a que eles não têm.

E assim nas calhas de roda
Gira, a entreter a razão,
Esse comboio de corda
Que se chama coração.
